Proctor's Militia Flag T-Shirt | Bella + Canvas 3001

The Proctor's Militia flag was created in 1775 by John Proctor's Westmoreland County Militia. Originally a British red ensign flag, a rattlesnake with 13 rattles and the quote "DONT. TREAD. ON. ME." was painted onto it. 

Many reproductions of this flag have been offered by retailers in the past, but most have been of restyled and historically inaccurate designs. This design was drawn by us to accurately reproduce the original look of the flag as it may have appeared during the Revolutionary War.

I.B.W.C.P.  stands for the Independent Battalion, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Colonel John Proctor's signature is seen above.

The county of Westmoreland was only two years old and much larger in 1775, embracing all of the lands within Washington, Greene, and Fayette counties, and parts of Allegheny, Beaver, Armstrong, and Indiana counties.

Later adopted as Westmoreland County's official flag, the Proctor's Militia flag is a true symbol of revolution in Western Pennsylvania.
